A touch of good news

We now finally have a playground to ourselves. We all thought that renting a server was a great idea, one that has been in all of our minds for the longest time, but as we all have come to realize, few of us actually execute these great ideas, even the really easy ones.

So Lamb and I took it upon ourselves to go out and get the server up and running.

The IP address is 209.246.143.135:27015
If you want to help pay: Click Here

It is a 24 man server; we can upgrade the player limit but that would mean more money and given the financial situations of our collective group, that probably won't be happening any time soon. Although if everyone were to pitch in less than $10 dollars we could possibly have 2 super fast 32 man servers, but that's a different story...

The server is located in Dallas, Texas and our pings are at a comfortable 50-60 range.

Currently it is set up in a very basic manner. It follows the normal Valve Map Rotation, minus Arena maps.

We are working on providing the following basic amenities:

RockTheVote
VoteKick
VoteMute
VoteBan
VoteScramble
HLStats

Please post your thoughts on what other server functions you would like to see (ex. have the option of wearing party hats, music), what maps you would like the server to focus on (ex. 24/7 something, or a select rotation), what you are willing to help with (funding, server scripting, server art), and any other thoughts on the matter, and please state the reason why.

The server also includes a free website component: http://barnyard.clanservers.com

It currently does not have a proper index.html so it will just give you an error if you go to it. Any help with setting up a basic site would be appreciated (I'm looking at you Chris & Sam). The website supports PHP and I think I even saw a button for a PHP forum, so all the tools you need are at your disposal I believe, it's just a matter of using them to put things in place.

We've opened the doors for you guys, now it is up to you to decide how much BYA matters to you.

Lamb and I are the server admins, so if you want server access privileges, then you'll need to have reason for such a thing, like working on server side scripting or working on the separate clan website. This does not mean that you all won't be admins within TF2, because we will all be able to change the map, kick/ban players, etc. But there is no need for anyone to be messing with the account and server scripts unless there is proper reason to.

There are plenty of tutorials

There are plenty of tutorials on the internet about managing and configuring servers. If you can copy and paste, and have good reading comprehension (which I know you do) then you can do shit. There is no need to fiddle with hardware, it's all text.

Oh and Tuesday night we had a good 6 v 6 going on our server... That's about as full as it got though... But that's something!!

lets make apple juice and fax it to eachother.

okeee...

so far it is a stock rotation server. all stock maps can be nominated, even arena (though arena is not on the rotation).

i got Rockthevote to work and Nominate. First type nominate in chat... select a map you want to play, then type in rtv after you've selected the map. that map you selected will be among 5 other maps up for vote for the next map.

MOTD/Chalkboard at server intro is now working/custom. although, its basic text. for those of you with HTML knowledge can make us a very pretty chalkboard. i have a tut for those that are interested.

hlstats cost money. there are alternatives...

next i'll will be working on vote kick/ban/mutes/scrambles.
